Special Programs

Besides catching criminals, the Joliet Police Department participates in many different activities that help strengthen their ties with the community, and attempt to involve residents.  Click on any of the icons below to learn more about some of our Department's special programs.

The Joliet Police Department sponsors a free child fingerprint program.  All participants are given an information packet along with their fingerprints.  They must provide their own picture.  Dates are in the process of being set for the next few weeks, now that the weather is becoming warmer.  Officers are available to attend special events.

D-FY-IT is program designed to promote drug abuse prevention through the rewarding of junior and senior high school students who are staying clean and enjoy a drug-free life.  Originally founded by a group of students from Whitehouse High School in Tyler, Texas, it was introduced in Joliet in 1992.  This voluntary, community-based program provides peer support to motivate young people to develop character and life habits that resist illegal drug use and refrain from abuse of alcohol.

Based upon rewards not punishments, D-FY-IT is being administered by and for students with guidance by adult advisors. The program involves random urinalysis tests for drugs and alcohol.  Members that can show that they are drug-free and remain that way are entitled to many benefits, including discounts or two-for-one offers at many local merchants.

A multitude of Joliet Area merchants promote the program by participating, and making these discounts and other offers available to student participants.  If you are interested in becoming a member of D-FY-IT, as either a student or a merchant, you can contact the program through email snail mail, or phone at:
