Child Safety Seats
The next child seat check is scheduled for Saturday May 18th from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at Jefferson Street and Woodlawn Avenue (old car dealership lot) in Joliet.
The Joliet Police Department has operated its own Child Passenger Safety Seat (CPS) program since 1999. Since its inception, the program has conducted hundreds safety seat check lanes and hundreds of public information sessions at multiple locations throughout the city. In addition, the Joliet Police Department has hosted and instructed dozens of certified CPS classes.
Currently, the program has over thirty (30) certified CPS technicians and two certified instructor/senior checkers. In 2012 we hope to add two additional instructor/senior checkers. During the year, the program will hold safety seat check lanes in locations throughout the city, averaging approximately one per month. During each of the check lanes, informational materials are distributed and citizens are provided with opportunities for both verbal instruction and hands-on participation. There are also giveaways for both adults and children.
As a free service to the community, the Joliet Police Department also provides one-on-one child seat inspections. These individual inspections can be scheduled by completing and submitting the request form found HERE. After submitting the request form, you will be contacted by the program coordinator (or his designee) to schedule an appointment with a certified safety seat technician.
If there are any further questions about the department’s program, all inquires can be directed to the program coordinator by email, by telephone (815) 724-3415 or by mail:Joliet Police Department Attn: Child Safety Seat Coordinator 150 W. Washington Street Joliet, IL 60432
